Went out for a walk an hour ago and the wind was pretty stiff, about 40 miles per hour. It has picked up some in the last hour and I hear it whistle and shake the windows at regular intervals.
No one in the neighborhood has evacuated except for an old couple and following the advice of the county officials we have stocked up on water, etc and hope to ride through this storm which is supposed to hit with full force around 1am.
The atmosphere around the neighborhood is quite festive (everyone, their grandma and their new born were out and about) and I met/chatted with more people in my hour long walk than I have for the last six months! I guess a common threat does bring people close
The lights been flickering and even went out for a minute but so far it all seems to be under control.
Will keep you guys updated hopefully this adventure won't get too interesting

Now it seems to be the calm before the storm...
With the way it is expected to hit and all the grave warnings, why have the ppl not evacuated the place? It has crashed into places real disastrously!!!!

People are crazy, they are holding hurricane 'parties' in areas considered extremely dangerous.
Of course hurricane fatigue also plays a role as people get lulled into a false sense of security and finally there is the awful experience from the last major evacuation (Rita) where people were on the road for over 20 hours and would have been in horrible danger if the hurricane hadn't changed course at the last minute
Yeah that is why this time around the govt is asking the ppl to vacate. So why didn't you leave? Come on, even now you should.
No evacuation orders were issued for our county. It would be suicidal to leave the house right now

Went outside to take a pic, its too dark and the pics look crappy despite the flash. I was trying to get the trees as they were bending over in the wind but its hard to tell
Can you try making a video?
Use the option in which moving things can be captured. Your camera must have that facility. Check it out. Go for panorama (pics) otherwise. They would be pretty insightful.
Are you nuts? Its' dangerous to go outside in such cicumstances.

btw! I am really fascinated by the idea of 'hurricane parties' ......seems awful :)

I would rather be feeling gusts and rain of hurricane standing outside...
and then the hurricane will take care of me :p

lol.....I tried to cover it through swimming but I thing I still feel some fear of it.
Ok then no skydiving for you. What if the plane is ova some river or ocean and PostMan decides to push you off and then I let go of your hand too? No no, not recommended.

oh hell yeah! I love swimming! Some of the nastiest of canal waters of peshawar is in my body! :p was not that good then.. am not that good now either :p
Couple of years ago I swam in Keenjhar Lake.. near Nuri Jam Tamachi shrine.. I swear I feared the water. Its such a huge lake. I have seen the Indus lake.. but this is one hell of a lake..
