198,000 CPE Units being ordered to keep pace with the demand of WiMAX users in Pakistan!
Wateen Telecom uses Motorola’s 802.16e WiMAX infrastructure to power its subscribers’ connectivity. The CPE units are used by Wateen customers for wireless access to high speed, affordable data and voice services.
Pakistan has been regarded as one of the fastest growing telecom markets and adding to it, Wateen has been experiencing promising growth since its consumer launch in December 2007. Wateen has placed an order with Motorola to provide 198,000 CPE units for the unprecedented demand. This order has been recognized as one of the largest orders for WiMAX CPEs in the world.
The CPE, or Customer Premises Equipment, enable consumers, small businesses and Pakistan's enterprises to access wireless services – a range from basic telephony and fast internet access to high-end data services such as virtual private networks.
Motorola has deployed WiMAX and core solutions in multiple countries in the Middle East, Pakistan, and Africa, and also provides Wateen with managed services expertise to allow Wateen to focus its critical resources on empowering efficiencies and keeping ahead of rapidly advancing technologies. Motorola's wi4 family of feature-rich award-winning end-user devices for WiMAX networks will enable consumers and businesses in Pakistan to connect a device onto the operational network and receive an instantly reliable network connection.
"The availability of our WiMAX network is an impressive milestone for Wateen Telecom and for the telecommunications potential of developing countries demonstrating how they can leapfrog developed countries. Our network puts Wateen at the global forefront of the telecom industry. Motorola's capabilities to deliver WiMAX 802.16e solutions and end-user devices ahead of the industry and our early adoption of this technology has given us the opportunity to be the first to offer WiMAX 802.16e-based broadband voice and data services in Pakistan," said Tariq Malik, chief executive officer, Wateen Telecom.

Guys....as far as i know...Motorola is prewimax product....Than how come this product is too much accepted by World. As this technology need infrastructure change for pure GSM/3G Voice Operator. They surely need tested & certified product so that they preety assure abou tthe end results.

Motorola is trying to set its standard by capturing market. Whoever sells the most will eventually become the de-facto standard in the market regardless of its pros and cons. Remember the war between VHS and Betamax. Betamax was definitely better but end up loosing to VHS simply because VHS out sold betamax.
Services of Wateen are already so bad.
1) No Signals
2) No way to check your capped bandwidth quota
3) Customer Service is Pathetic
It is not just me complaining, you can see a lot of comments on Wateen here
