Wateen Launches WiMAX Nationwide for Consumers on the 16th of December!

Lahore, Pakistan, December 15th, 2007: Wateen Telecom, an Abu Dhabi
Group venture in Pakistan, will be launching its WiMAX and HFC services
for the consumer markets tomorrow. The launch will allow Wateen
customers to have voice, telephony and broadband internet.

Wateen Telecom has been working on establishing a wireless network
infrastructure since early 2006, and installed the network in early
2007. Their WiMAX service is a major breakthrough in the Pakistani
broadband market as it will be a fast and cost-effective alternative to
existing broadband services.

The development of the network has been carried out by Motorola, and
is the largest WiMAX network ever installed. The project is a milestone
for both the companies, as well as the nation, as it is expected to
herald a broadband revolution in Pakistan, catering to more than one
million users.

Tariq Malik, CEO, Wateen Telecom, “We are providing Pakistani
consumers with complete communication solutions. Services such as high
speed broadband internet and voice telephony will have a direct impact
on the number of broadband users online. We are contributing to the
growing market.”

Wateen Telecom’s launch is Pakistan’s first and the world’s largest
WiMAX deployment. The team is confident of the market’s growth and of
the long term benefits these services and solutions will bring to
Pakistan.

I hope they also keep the prices reasonable.

i am still doubtfull of there launch......... & the quality of there service

Well, I went through the Tarrifs they've put up on their website. Considering that its a new technology, it is relatively pricey, but if it works good enough, I'm willing to pay.

Can somebody help me understand the pricing in simple terms? Am a bit confused...

From this: http://www.wateen.com/HomeUsers.aspx?HomeTreeID=16 , I understand that a 512K with 4GB limit would cost Rs. 1,050 only. Is this per month? Have I interpreted the table correctly?

Yes Badar sahab, its the monthly cost, but you also have to pay for the cpe.. wateen is asking rs.8,499 for it if you pay in one go, along with the rs. 1050 for the monthly bandwidth..

Not bad at all... Can somebody do a comparative analysis with WorldCall and other broadband service providers... That would help build a WiMAX case to home and business users alike.

Yes it would. Personally, the first plus point I see in Wateen's WiMax is its coverage. They said that they are covering every major city. So hopefully I should be able to get a connection here as Worldcall hasn't laid down fibre optic cables here in my area.

Is it launched country wide as yet, or only in Lahore? WHat about the testing units delpoyed at various customer locations to test the service. Wuld they still be operational or do they have to pay now !

Test units are DEAD....... but i guess there should be options to test there service for home connection, i am still unsure if i should get it or not and another concern is data limit i really hate that ....

Sorry, I misspelt your name.. Hameed Sahib.

What a silly claim, analyzer.

They can make millions more by expanding operations why would they settle for millions less. That's similar to the silly argument propagated that Pakistan does not drill for oil because it has signed a contract with Iran to not do so!
