The launch will allow Wateen customers to have voice, telephony and broadband internet.
Wateen Telecom has been working on establishing a wireless network infrastructure since early 2006, and installed the network in early 2007. Their WiMAX service is a major breakthrough in the Pakistani broadband market as it will be a fast and cost-effective alternative to existing broadband services.
The development of the network has been carried out by Motorola, and is the largest WiMAX network ever installed. The project is a milestone for both the companies, as well as the nation, as it is expected to herald a broadband revolution in Pakistan, catering to more than one million users.
Tariq Malik, CEO, Wateen Telecom, “We are providing Pakistani consumers with complete communication solutions. Services such as high speed broadband internet and voice telephony will have a direct impact on the number of broadband users online. We are contributing to the growing market.”
Wateen Telecom’s launch is Pakistan’s first and the world’s largest WiMAX deployment. The team is confident of the market’s growth and of the long term benefits these services and solutions will bring to Pakistan.

Sorry dude, but I did not quite get what you have written up there. I do understand that you are not very happy with the package and that you have given some reasoning to justify your conclusion, but it would be helpful if you rephrase your comments so the rest of us can also understand how you consider Wateen not to be a good value for money. Thanks !
first of all watenn is not offering something special.its pakages are costly.i have been waiting for wateen launch but its a great disappointment.
in simple words y would i pay u 300$/year + installation + equipment + tex + i have to buy 2 (not 1 two) Telephone lines +Download limit 10Gb + monthly line rent for a wireless telephone for 512Kb connection.
if i can get 256Kb for 250$/year with no download limit.
Tell me y would u want a faster internet if u dont want to download anything + how can u play games If u know every byte ur using playing games online is reducing ur limit.
i forgot to mention they also advertise that they would also offer tv+cable Video on demand
and these ***** just skipped that in the launch i will willingly pay at a maximum of 25-30$/monthly if they offer me 512kb with no limit + cable + one telephone line rent.y would they have to force u to buy their 2 telephone connection if u want to buy internet .is it a good stretegy.Wateen is in a desperate need of good staff.
Hmmm.... I am afraid I will have to agree with you there. If that is the requirement, I wonder how many would actually sign-up for a Wateen service.
I on the other hand was under the impression that the cost is going to be much competitive with other service providers.
Well, the story is different on what is being elaborated on the Wateen's website.
Go the link here and from the left menu select TARIFF.
But then again, things are a bit complicated than they seem to be. There are some additional (hidden) costs that I was unable to comprehend (on the same link above, click on BUNDLE PACKAGES).
I would appreciate if someone could elaborate what exactly the cost to have a Wateen WiMax connection is.
one time payment 17999/year
battery cost 1500
installation 1800
18000
1500
1800
--------
21300+tax 15%
3195 tax
---------
24495

all prices are exclusive of texas and if u need more cable than 20ft u need to pay more.i still remember when world call launched it ofered me free modem + free installation for cable and internet. and i just instantly jumped and grab it. who would pay that much
and dont know about iad ports but i think battery is ofr that if lights goes out ur telephone would still work no one had yet thought that if u have wateens wireless telephone wat would happen if lights goes off.
using from 5th jan 08 running perfectly download speed of nearly 62 kbps very nice service and grt rates as well and guys 10GB isnt worse at all2008-01-08
salamz, well this wateen launch is just a shit, nothing else, i ll prefer my dial-up on these horrible services. I m amazed their highest download limit is 10GB. Isn't it a blunder??? Three kind of ppl would chose wateen!
1: Mad
2: Bakra
3: Nawab k bachey
I was realy really excited & happy to see the wimax broadband launching of wateen but after the seeing the cost of the connection every thing flew away i tought Wateen will be challenging the prices of existing broadband connections and will cut down the ultra expensive internet as compared to the international internet rates, i would have then also considered the wateen wimax broadband if there had not been the heavy installation/startup cost and the limit of 10GB per month. I think people will really would like 2 see and appreciate a package in future with these features:
1. No Startup Cost ( u can increase the contract to 2 years if u feel )
2. No Download limit ( or if so then allow atleast 40GB per month )
3. Monthly Charges Rs.1400/- (not above Rs. 1600/- very few will pay above it -and business are designed for masses not a few upper classed users)
i guess Wateen should offer this package with 256K speed if not feasible for 512K
I guarantee if wateen offers such package a majority of current broadband user will jump to Wateen , currently all my friends who are using broadband are not interesed in Wateen at all due to its heavy price.
I will really like a good improvement in its prices
Wateen's marketing plan is a total failure...I registered twice but after not getting a single reply from them I decided to call.
Even their main customer LAHORE office do not even have their franchise numbers. so I visited their franchise office in Shara-e-faisal Karachi, and asked them regarding their packages, the guy asked me about my residential area and when i told him i live in Garden then he excused me by saying that "At the mean time we are not offering services to Garden Area and it will take almost 2 months to reach there". Good enough reason to get the bitter flavour of level of services they are offering...
Such a pathetic level of marketing and client services because at the first place they are inviting people for their services through advertisements in televisions and news papers but upon calling at their main customer office of Lahore you would be able to know that they dont even have their franchsie numbers.. when you would walk in to their franchise offices by wasting yout time you will hear "NO" from them...if at the first instance they are not offering services in the complete cities then why the hell they are advertising so much...With such high cost of broadband packages and such a terrible customer services at the point of sale (dont know what they would do after sales) How come they expect to capture the market?
its more like "YATEEM" rather than "WATEEN"

i am completely agree with you
Well People wimax is here and seems like it is recieving many hostilities from the general public.
i know for a fact that wateen is providing quality services,
they may not be affordable at present but they might be eventually (I HOPE)..
BTW anyone here ever used WIMAX at all..???
Just a question...
i am using a wimax bundle package. Wateen provides a good package but facing signal problem.
Salamz every one!
Wateen offered very nice services, but the problem are costs. I hope they will become affordable in future. We are using WiMAX services from Wateen, the speed is ok + signal problem.
Wateen should offer some lower package for Students.
