Tiny amount of alcohol is permissible in Islam.

Tiny amount of alcohol is permissible in Islam.

A prominent Egyptian cleric has created controversy by issuing a fatwa that says tiny amounts of alcohol are permissible in Islam.

Yusuf al-Qaradawi's fatwa says a level of 0.5% is allowed, whereas most Muslims would say alcohol of any quantity is banned.

Sheikh Qaradawi was recently refused entry to Britain as the UK government said his views could spark violence.

He issued his fatwa in response to a question about high energy drinks.

'Distorted'

Sheikh Qaradawi is talking about tiny quantities of alcohol - equivalent to about one-eighth of a unit of alcohol.

He ruled there was no religious ban on consuming drinks with a minute amount of alcohol in them if it was formed naturally through the process of fermentation.

He quoted the rule derived from the sayings of the Prophet that if drinking a lot of alcohol makes you intoxicated then drinking a little is also forbidden.

Sheikh Qaradawi argued that any person who consumed a large amount of high energy drink would not become intoxicated, therefore they were permissible, even though they contained tiny amounts of alcohol.

But this logic has not gone down well.

The editor of a newspaper in Qatar, where Sheikh Qaradawi lives, complained that the sheikh had just stirred up a controversy that everyone could have done without.

The editor said the fatwa from a cleric of the status of Sheikh Qaradawi would inevitably be misunderstood and distorted to suggest he was giving permission to Muslims to drink alcohol.

Sheikh Qaradawi, who is a well-known TV figure, views himself as a moderate voice of Islam.

Shiekh Yousaf had written a book  which was urdu translated with name " Islam main Halal -o-Haram" That was also a controversy itself.

Mr Jawaid Ghamdi has same kind of fever.

Ataul-haq Qasmi's father Molana Bhawal Haq Qasimi said him on death bed" Gunah insan say hee hota hai, Tum bhee gunah kero gay mager kabhee us ki daleel talash na kerna"

we all take 0.05% of alcohol there is nothing wrong with it, we take that amount in medications in beverages etc. But if some one speaks of the fact it becomes controversy.

TAIMUR   .

hehehhehhe  Tinyamount alcohol is allowed  ...........Non sense.

                                   VERY FUNNY

Whats wrong with that eyptian i think he drinks and he is out of his senses.Rosool ALLAH (SAW) didn't say that where is he quoting these things he should speak in according to quran and sunnah.

I strictly condemn this fatwa because Alchol is not permissable in Islam. And if the plea is that all medicines contain .05% alchol then there is no need to highkight this fact as this can cause controversy and like many other acts it would be customized that alchol is permitted in Islam.

Secondly,if true, the validity of this fatwa should be given in light of Hadith and Quran.

I totally agree with SaadiaNasir - if one passes a fatwa, he/she should do it with absolute reference to the Qur'an and Sunnah within its context too and not apply the 'copy and paste' context...

Alcohol is forbidden as far as my knowledge encompasses...even in medicines, where there is an alternative eg. in cough syrups, fever medications, flu syrups, etc and (which has always been the case amongst my family) without alcohol or where there is no alternative but the condition is not serious, one is not permitted to take the alcohol...

Also, i think we should focus more on our commonalities and thus, build up the unity and strength of the ummah rather than controversies which divide us...i think our biggest problem as an ummah as that we are too petty (just a generalization - i'm not referencing to anyone on this site), we focus on small issues where there are bigger issues threating the ummah and inevitably, we are the driving force of our own state in the world today...

Some issues do need to be discussed but our purpose is merely to advise and then if one does not take heed, we ought to agree to disagree rather than trying to shove our perceptions down their throats...it would be more fruitful to pray for guidance for such an individual...

Let's be vigilant...let's work on a more united Ummah...
