Slackistan

Pakistan is not exactly known for its bustling movie scene; the film industry is dominated by Gujjar Khans and Vehshi Haseena’s, add in the occasional rain dance and some badly executed action sequences and voila! you have a Lollywood masterpiece. Yes we watch Avatar and Dil Bole Haddipa but when was the last time we had a movie we could relate to as Pakistanis. Last year, Omar Khan released his zombie movie Zibakhana; touted as the first Pakistani horror film and armed with a cool, young cast the film went on to be a smashing success. This year Hammad Khan, a young expatriate living in the UK, will release his anxiously awaited Slackistan. The movie has all the elements to be a hit with the younger crowd: hot guys, hotter girls, teenage angst, etc etc. It is refreshing to see filmmakers reach out to this demographic; no one wants to see Saima gyrating in a cornfield while Shaan kills some gundas in the background. Filmed in Islamabad with an almost obsolete budget, Slackistan exposes reality of like in Pakistan that few outside the country have seen. Yes, our young people wear jeans, they can speak fluent English, they even date! Check out the links for more information:
