Self Talk
submitted 6 months 15 days 16 hours ago by: TheSophisticated : 4 commentsFew days back, we had our routine training sessions regarding ‘Motivation and Time Management’. (They think that we would start working after these sessions). Like other organization, it is the usual practice here.
The time management session was typically boring and bookish session. I took interest in exercises only. Second session was all about motivation. It was the most interesting session we ever had. We watched ‘Finding Nemo’ (which I watched three times) and then the fascinating quiz regarding plot of the film. As everyone knows Finding Nemo is all about motivation and courage. It made the session quite interesting. I must say the guys know how to capture our interest in training program.
The Point, which I want to discuss here, is about the exercises that they recommended for self improvement and motivation. I am not at all a psychological student, so some points were new for me. One of these exercises, which they have recommended, was Self Talk. They emphasized the need to fix some time in which we should
“stand in front of a mirror,
see straight in your eyes,
and say: ‘I am the most beautiful and intelligent person in the world. I can do what others cannot. I am hard working, sincere, graceful and a loveable person and everyone likes me’”.
The house started hahahahaha……..roaring laughters and laughters. People should not react like that. They are experts of their field. There must have some sound grounds behind this ecstasy. Ok ok I was also laughing but not so loudly. They presented different theories regarding this exercise which I dont remember yet. But in the end they made more than half of the house agreed thinking that it would actually be a healthy exercise. People promised to try it.
But I am still having some confusion in my mind. Does this euphoria keep us in reality? And when we know what the reality is, I think we would be in worst situation.
What would you say? Is there any psychology student here who can share his theories with us?

Self belief and self empowerment are key to success. If you don't believe in yourself and your abilities others (bosses) will not see these quailities either; though they may be abundantly present in you. However, it is not merely false bravado we are talking about here; you must also be well educated or at the very least skilled at your chosen trade.
Those sessions will help you gain confidence which is a word that sums up the statement "I don't care what the world thinks"
oh yes i forgot to add it "I don't care what the world thinks".
Dont you think self belief and self talk are two different things?
Ok i agree that you would have to believe in your own abilities if you want to grow. I had the argument with them too specifically about self talk. I was of the view that it is all about my inner feelings what i feel about myself. ok I should always take myself postively but why self talk? They say that it is necessary for your ears to listen what you feel from inside. Tell me, if i start standing in front of a mirror sayin i am genius and intellegent blah blah......my family would definitely consider me insane. Now dont recall "I don't care what the world thinks". In any case, i have no other world to live in
Don't you indelibly believe that Jews and Indians are bad? That all politicians are corrupt? That the West is out to 'get us', that our 'religion is under attack'?
So see, even a lie heard often enough becomes a conviction. Most people naturally have leadership qualities; all that is needed is nurture. Therefore the first step necessarily should be to convince yourself and then armed with self confidence, face the world
TAIMUR .
I am not a psychology student but i would say that this euphoria takes us away from reality and we start living in the dream world and never reach the truth about anything. "THE KEY TO SUCCESS IS TO ACCEPT THE WORLD THE WAY IT IS" one should know his weak points and his positive points and live with it.
A TRUE FRIEND IS THE ONE WHO POINTS OUT ONE'S NEGITIVE POINTS.
No one is perfect in this world and without knowing the weaknesses one can not improve and would get in the worse situations.
