Retrenchment of PTCL employees

A frightening figure of 29,000 employees is to be separated soon.
One greatest blessing of privatization is the down sizing of employees. It might be done as quickly as the firm privatizes or it might be done after some time but it is a confirmed component of privatization. Here come the turn of PTCL’s employees. We are already facing huge unemployment and it would surely be worst when PTCL employees would join the pool.
PTCL’s operating profit decreased by 32 per cent in 2007 as compared to 2006 which became the reason of retrenchment of employees. According to them, they cannot face the burden of salaries. If we take look of salaries, 65,000 employees together get Rs14, 025 million per annum. In contrast, PTCL’s top brass comprising some 120 executives get Rs274 million per annum that is an average of Rs190, 529 per capita per month which is more than 10 times what each ordinary employee gets. Salary cost is consisting only 30 percent of total operating cost.

There are two conditions before employees:
Low salaried employees would be the bitter victims. These compensation allowances may provide sustenance for saturating up their own ventures, but we cannot ignore the fact that salaried employees are not much risk-takers. They hesitate to startup their own and are not usually successful in business.
PTCL has overlooked their performance which remained quiet bad in all respect. They are not competitive enough to be known as Pakistan biggest telecommunication corporation. They don’t deserve it.
One more thing that should be noted that salaries of employees remained cutting down in last year which make them unhappy and unsatisfied. How could such employees make their customers happy? Instead of using work force as asset, they are going to increase country’s burden. I feel really very hopeless today.
They are going to deteriorate 29,000 families………and it is interesting to note when Govt. asks, “Who are these suicide bombers?”
so sad -:(
Govt is getting to harsh with every matter related to common people. I don't know why but this the fact.
This is good, first thing PTCL is not 100% privatized, only 60% of it belongs to the private sector and 40% to the Govt. For the last so many years PTCL haven’t performed anything for the consumer, there accusation didn’t go well and Etisalat had to pay a very heavy price for that, all the new products launched by PTCL have failed due to unavailability of logistics and supports.
There is lack of organizational structure; there is lack of procedures and process with checks and balances. They do have one of the finest technically automated systems but the operators are not willing to work at all. Majority of employess didnt approve the acusation and dont take orders seriously from there top management. What should we expect from Etisalat who invested heavily in Pakistan and get no returns. All the profits generated by PTCL is via excessive billing to their customers for which PTCL is never answerable.
In the corporate sector this is normal stuff during the dot com bubble crashed many people lost their jobs in the silicon valley, and here in Pakistan if PTCL wants to improve they have to end the culture of "Sarkari Naukari style" and add the corporation into its soul. So if people are getting laid off its because they didn’t work at all and caused the company a loss of such an amount that they had no other option but to lay off.
In terms of human sentiments it’s a sad news that 29000 people will lose jobs. I hope for the very best for them.
-Decision power and management powers are in the hands of Etisalat as they are sharing 60% of PTCL. Govt. just performs like a sleeping partner.
-Etisalat is not consistent in its new policy. There were strong reservations by the policy makers at the time of privatization that Etisalat is not having enough technical capability to run the largest business giant. No one can present you logistic support in a platter you have to create it yourself and specially in the case when you are heading the stock exchange.
They do have one of the finest technically automated systems but the operators are not willing to work at all.
-lol its a pure managerial attitude. Manager keeps saying and complaining that his staff does not work at all and not obey him. If PTCL workers dont' work, then why didn't Etisalat shut down its business? Why are they covering their share in stock exchange?
-Yes they have introduced the automated system. And you know who have installed this system....'the PTCL employees', specially operators. Management sent them for training in this system and when they have installed every thing, they are given the letter of "Not Needed" in recognition. It is common phenomenon iin every office, some people do work and some dont. All workers are not same. In these two years, these workers (specially supervisors and operators) gave their best and learnt to operate the new system as they were told that those workers would sustain who our have expertise in automated system. I know some people who got specially degrees in related foeld. But they did not upto their words.
-And tell me one thing who can disobey his Boss or manager if he orders him....(keeping in view the insecurity of your job in future).
-It is the duty of Govt. to create some alternate opportunities for these 'Not Needed" people as our poor economy does not bear such a huge bubble of unemployment.
-It is also the "ander ki news" that PTCL registered huge huge profit this year. But it include in their strategy that they are showing loss to make a reason for retrenchment of employees.
-It is a good argument to fire some that he or she does not work or not upto standard. This argument is presented when managers want to fire some workers without reason. It is very unfair and inhuman to say that they dont work AT ALL. They have spent their lives with PTCL. Yes it could be said that machines take the place of humans. When we spend our weekends, Eid or other national holidays with our families, some of these people remain on duty facilitating us,if we could not appreciate their performance, we could even respect their time which they could spend with their families.
That is the brutal aspect of modernazation and development as it spreads without caring human sentiments.
I want to request for some informations that our job is not panssionable cos we have compelted 13 years job as per PTCL Pakistan VSS scheme. And they announced that if we do not opt the VSS scheme then we will remain work on current terms and conditions. As we know we are permanently emplyees currently and our job is penssionable after completing 10 years as govt job so we will remain work as permanent employees or they will offer NTC (new terms and conditions). We really are confused about this situation.
Thankyou
Regards
Raja
Ubaildullah! I could not understand what do you want to ask.
As far as my knowledge is concerned about the VSS, as I mentioned earliar, they have offered two options. Read above.
Dear's All
It is very truth that in june 2008 PTCL will announce NTC(New Term and Conditions)(contract), So, there will be no any employee remaining permanent employee in PTCL as Govt. Employee. What are the NTC in june. Thats Secret. So remaining employees are in ................?........... .
As PTCL management told that remaining employees will work on present term and conditions, the employees are working same term and condition but keeping in view that till up to june 2008. Pl. do not trust on me but ""KHOJ TO LGHAIN""
GOD bless you I mean Allllllll of uuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
Dear PTCL management have decided to reject vss for remaining employees, in which most of employees are in very bad condition in health. and the work burdan is more than four times loaded on them. PTCL management can not answering those employees who ask them the grounds of vss rejection and all other questions about rejection of vss. It shows that PTCL management has no any point to point formula about to deal with the remaining employees of ptcl. Please think on it all remaining Empoyees of ptcl. With Best regards WAHEED ES
