Pakistan being stereotyped....Its time to make amends...

My claims are not hear say neither am I being influenced by the media, nor am I a conspiracy theorist but I am telling it as I see it. For the past decade I have seen Pakistan's name being slowly introduced in the entertainment industry, whether it be games, or movies.

It is as if how you teach a child something you slowly introduce the word, then u build
up the foundation of it and eventually embed it in his mind the meaning of the word. The first time I came across Pakistan's name was in the video game, ‘Delta Force Black Hawk Down’, where the Pakistani UN peace keeping force helps the US elite Delta Force fight the bad guys. Personally I felt proud that my countries name is being portrayed as the good guys. A year back I came across this documentary, ' Reel Bad Arabs, How Hollywood Vilifies a People' and the things I saw shocked me to the core. It talked about in Hollywood movies and cartoons, the Arabs are always portrayed as the evil, American hating people who always have this accent which makes them even more sinister. And around that concept the people all around world feel as if all Arabs are bad guys, and it was no surprise when Arabs are attacked and ridiculed we don’t feel any sympathy towards them, all because it embedded in our subconscious that Arabs are bad people and that is what they deserve.

Believe it or not, but we as a nation are being stereotyped too. Some of you might not know this but from what I can conjure up from all the things they say is that we're Islamism radicals, terrorist by nature and with nuclear capabilities. In games like ‘Ghost Recon Advance Warfare 2’, a Pakistani cargo ship carrying nuclear warheads was bringing in WMD's to the rebels in Mexico. One might ask them why Pakistan would help Mexican rebels or what was a Pakistani cargo would ship doing in Mexico. To that there was no answer, even till the end of the game there was no mention or answer to it. And I was left bewildered to why would Pakistan help Mexico, when clearly other nations that hate America were close by, like Cuba, could bring in military aid to the bad guys. Pakistan's name has become a form of an insult, if they see a corrupt, or incapable person they use it as an offense. Like in the game ‘GTA IV The Ballad Of Gay Tony’, the radio station known as ‘WKTT We Know The Truth’, a caller calls the host and says how he hates Abraham Lincoln and the host says '...yes, he's definitely a Pakistani...'

Even though the radio shows in the game are purely there for amusement and cheap laughs. But still does not explain why they would use this phrase; all I can imagine is that Pakistan has become a word referring to something incompetent, dangerous and useless. I myself sometimes think of Pakistan as what I have been slowly indoctrinated into believing, what they portray us as.

I have been following the western media for a decade now and if my brain has been affected to think this way, only God knows how many children and generations from all over the world have been mislead into believing this information. Our future is in our hands, I believe the generations before us have made mistakes for which today our current generation is being ridiculed for. We do not have to go beyond our limits of culture, or religion to portray ourselves as peace loving people; we can do this our own way. There will be a thousand people insulting us but if we can convince only one of them that this image of ours is false, and then I would say our efforts have made a difference. Before you know it, our image, (when I asked a Dutch person to describe Pakistan and Pakistani's) as a desert country where women, that are covered from head to toe, are suppressed and men carrying beards on their faces and AK's on their back would make way to new image of, accomplished men and women who are righteous by thought brave by heart and intelligent by trait is embedded in peoples mind.

There are those who would think that this is an unrealistic goal, or that we don’t
need the west and we are better off without the west. To them I have only thing to say, that as a nation on this earth, it is our obligation to make our stance noted to the world that we are here to stay, we have something positive to give to this world. Not only by religion but by nature we are a peace loving and liberal people. We are accomplished, we are capable and we are here to stay as a nation who would not bow down to any insult, but we will fight as educated men and women to make our place. Because our nation was build on the foundation of unity faith and discipline, and we shall honor our forefathers who made this nation of Pakistan against all odds with heads held high. We are the land of the pure, we are the pride of the Muslim nation and we have a responsibility of more than a billion Muslims. Let us not have our faces looking down on the floor when people say Pakistan's name but stand up tall when Pakistan becomes the envy of every nation, our current and future generation is this pinnacle of change and we should do anything to make our parents, our nation and our religion proud. Pakistan Zindabad!
