PPP, please clarify!
submitted 3 months 8 days 9 hours ago by: irfanzafar : 3 commentsThe PPP spokesperson or media team should clarify to the nation under what capacity Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, along with his siblings, joined Prime Minister Gilani on an ‘official’ visit to China for the inaugural ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Further, the party should also clarify whether the travel expenses for the Bhutto children were covered by the Pakistani taxpayer or from their own pockets. Given the PPP government’s promise of austerity and transparency, this is the least they can do.

Unofficial guests: clarification
THIS is apropos of Dr Irfan Zafar’s letter, ‘Unofficial guests’ (Aug 17), seeking clarification from the PPP spokesperson whether the travel expenses to Beijing of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his sisters were paid out of the taxpayers’ money or were paid from their own pockets.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was invited by the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the inaugural function of Beijing Olympics just as other leaders like Sonia Gandhi were invited to it.
As the chairman of the PPP was formally invited to the event, he was also accorded protocol as is given to heads of state/government.
Expenses on the travel and board/lodging were borne not by Pakistani taxpayers but by the Chinese Communist Party as was in the case of other leaders and their delegations invited by the CPC.
