Internet, a friend or a foe ?

When was the last time, you looked-up a dictionary ? OR
When was the last time you looked up the encyclopedia ?
Let me be honest ...... I don't remember !
Internet has taken the best of us. We don't do anything the human way, using our mind and registering something for later recall. Sometimes, when you think of it, the fact haunts you that we have become so much dependent on the technology that we refuse to even try giving some tough time to our minds. And probably just the way a machine starts getting rusty when not in use, our minds have also become rusty to the extent that when we try to recall something, they refuse any cooperation, whatsoever.
I remember, I use to remember every telephone number that I had dialed twice. But now, I don't remember the telephone or mobile numbers of any of my close friends, except for 4 or 5 may be. But I am not bothered, because I have them all saved on my mobile number, just a couple of keys away. But hey...wait a sec.....what if my mobile gets stolen on a gun point (quite common in Pakistan now) or gets dead for whatever reason (can't really rely on technology you know). Bhoooom...all gone. No more contacts, no more friends, unless someone tries calling me.
But yes, I would still not (or should I say I JUST CANNOT) get myself off this Internet now. I am hooked. Because it is so convenient. Why remember all this ? Why use your brain, as long as we have a DELL Notebook and a WorldCall connection.
Haaa, just crap. I don't know why I am even writing all this stuff....but sometimes I do curse all this technology that we have become a slave of. Do you think about this sometimes may be ??

New technologies replace old habits; people that don't adapt, suffer. Learning to perform complex arithmetic mentally is no longer a constructive use of the rapidly shrinking time at our disposal.
It does not make us smarter or sharper; it just makes us good at, well, doing arithmetic operations mentally; not a very productive use of the mind in this day and age
This is the age of data mining and assimilation; it requires us to learn new mental techniques and develop new problem solving strategies
What you mention above is not a loss and certainly not slavery but freedom from menial and undignified tasks such as memorizing phone numbers
It depends on the person to some extent. Use of internet is in your hand whether you avail it or just waste yourself. It's true that our habits got rocked gradually with the use of electronic devices.
Last day I noticed my typing speed, I was quit satisfied with speed that it is now improved. On other hand I had to write a paragraph and that time I shocked... My hand writing was improving with inverse proportion to my typing speed.
