Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan denies passing nuclear technology to Iran

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, father of nuclear technology in Pakistan, has denied the allegations put on him for leaking the nuclear technology secrets to Iran and Libya.
In a telephonic interview from his home in Islamabad, where he is house arrested, Dr. Khan said that he confessed all of this "in national interest" and the main culprits behind the pilferage got away.
He has put blame on several european companies, including UK, Germany, Switzerland and Holland, to have provided the nuclear technology to Iran and Libya.
So this is now the latest turning point. I wish he actually spells out the names of each of those companies and people that were behind this technology transfer. It would be a big slap on the face of Musharraf and the UK and US. The actual story behind all this will come out anyway in 40-50 years from now, the way it has always been. So why not for a change leak it out while the culprits are alive and the damage done to a respectable person can be undone.

A person should be blamed for wrongs that he/she has
committed and not for those that he/she hasn’t. It’s good if we stay focused and not toss blame for each ill
in only one direction. It may be fashionable now a days but it is not right. Lets examine few issues as example:
Yes
the “Gitmo guys” – Not at all. This is one area where he must be given credit for doing something right.
It was possible for Americans to simply send a Heli and get Dr. Khan kidnapped
(preferably - so they can learn the locations of our Nukes) or even assassinated, if he was not under tight army custody. I think Mush did the right thing here by keeping Dr. Khan out of harms way by keeping his under tight house arrest.

who told you that he didn't hand him over to americans because of this reason? plz shun aside such an ignorance!
There are other reasons thats why the late Benezir talked abt giving them access to the Dr.
One must be very realistic here!
The dr did play a major role in being the carrier for transfering the technology though it is impossible that the higher ups and especially the intelligence was unaware of the going-ons.
The Dr was but used as scapegoat and now he has decided to let the cat out of the bag. I agree with what he is trying to do here and believe that the others involved should be revealed, if it serves any national interests, other than the blame game thing, and those involved be made equally accountable for what they considered a crime.
I, however, have since long failed to understand why the nuclear block creates such a hue and cry when any state announces that it possesses nuclear technology. It cant be a case of sour grapes but then what is it? Insecurity?
Why is something right for some countries and wrong for others?
How do you think India got its technology? Read about China and England too! There hasn't been much of a difference in the method of acquisition. And another quesion pertains to whether it is the method which is a problem with them or the issue of ownership and ability to use this technology against them which worries them so..
It is a funny world out there. :)
Well elaborative and reality based comments Iola.
Asian Drwnay Khawb: Baynzair could have given him to amaricans as she did in Khalistan Fighters secanrio
"why the nuclear block creates such a hue and cry when any state announces that it possesses nuclear technology"
All about exploitation of weaker nations. Had Saddam succeeded in acquiring nuclear weapons we would never have attacked Iraq in order to pilfer her resources (None of the 9/11 terrorists was an Iraqi, there was no reason to attack Iraq other than to occupy her oil fields). Why do you think oil is at an all time high? Because occupation is not going to last much longer and we want to make hay while the sun is still shining.
North Korea did the right thing by going nuclear; they effectively guranteed their independence
Thanks to our so called "Free media" reality
instead of becoming clear has become more fogged. Every TV anchor and/or
journalist has his or her own set of reality. The news business is a
multi-billion industry that feeds on sensation and unrest. If there is no
unrest then they will create one.
It is like tale of Frankenstein and monster which he created.

Mianwalaijee,
No way!!
she was a person far above your intelligence and therefore knew who exactly was behind the whole scenerio!
I am sure you still would stand clueless as to which quarter of Dr's doings she wanted the world to know about?
See that's the difference between you and her ;)
Oh dont associate me with Mianwali...
BY the way what logic you find behind providing India the lists of Khalistan fighters by Banazir???
BIG QUESTION
what if he even did provide nuclear technology to IRAN ???
iran is not OUR enemy. (maybe not a good friend either due to the shia sunni bullshit). its not like he provided nuclear technolgy to INDIA - our enemy. thats when our leaders and musharraf should be upset.
he provided nuclear technology to enemy of USA. not ours. so even if he did why should we see him as a traitor and a fraud.
the guy worked his life to acquire and learn the technology. on several occasions risked his life. so what if he decided to make a few bucks by selling it to a few countries WHO ARE NOT EVEN ENEMIES OF PAKISTAN. why should we be bothered at all by it.
should USA's enemies be universal and hated by all?
P.S ISREAL is a C***
Hero worshiping is EVIL and forbidden.
At the same time insulting everyone in authority is bad in my experience. (and religion)
This is not KADIR's BOMB. and I believe for his arrogance in projecting himself as more important than other he has been PUNISHED.
I bet he never thought that he would be insulted officially like so.
Hope we have learnt something from the experience.
whenever i read abt the betrayal of ahl-e-koofa..(.how they invited Nawsaye-e-Rasool Hazrat Hussain to help them out n guide them....n once he was in their midst, they deserted him...)i can't help comparing that with the treatment we accorded to Dr.A Q Khan....n i feel guilty....its one of my long-standing wishes to meet him in person n ask for forgiveness.....i kind of agree with Mr p singha.....his alleged involvement in nuclear proliferation doesn't nullify his role in the development of our nuclear capabilities...
i love you Dr Saab,,,if u need an attendant to look after you ,read u news n keep you company by chatting incessantly, don't hesitate to contact me through buzzvines....i will b free in summers...
Dr. Khan is only a face to Pak nuke technology and I do not
give him anymore value then what he deserves.
There are a lot more and many bigger heroes in Pakistan.
I advice people to realign themselves towards humanity & peace instead of
nukes & wars. To me Abdul Sattar Edhi is a far superior human being than
Dr. Khan – or as a matter of fact any other scientist who built our nukes. Mr.
Edhi’s services to my country and to people are far superior to a mere nuke
scientist.
If I have to pick a hero then my hero is Edhi. Furthermore, I
would never want to meet a person who built nukes or other war gadgets. I like to
meet a person driving a donkey cart more then a person who make tools to kill
other human being.

Best thing, ever happened to Dr.....
He was protected from other countries, who wanted and still wants him badly.
instead of living in dungen, he lived in his house with full protection.
Who was responsible for all this..... Pakistani President.
please give people credit, where credit is due.
Best
Well, Mr. President did not do this out of the kindness of his heart but to save his own ass. I cannot believe that Dr. Qadeer was using military planes to transport parts and materials without approval or knowledge of Musharraf.
Not sure what you want Musharraf to be credited for, tbhatty, but if it is for covering his ass well, yes, he sure deserves kudos for a job well done.
Babar, no doubt, Edhi sits in the company of the other great humanitarians such as Mother Teresa, Gandhi and Damien the leper but Dr. Qadeer too deserves respect for his selfless struggle in the line of duty. If nothing, then he should be celebrated for his patriotism
You make your choices I make mine. He may be a good
scientist and a patriotic Pakistani but he is not my Hero. I have a different
criteria for selecting my heroes.
Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Mandela, Arafat and
Dr. King are surely in my list.

"To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace." - George Washington.
See, Dr.Qadeer's work can be construed as 'humanitarian'
Or as Ozzy quips:
"If that's the only thing that keeps the peace
Then thank God for the bomb"
George Washington may sound like a wise guy to Americans but I
don't have any particular appreciation for him. Icons mentioned in my previous
post are better point of references. Other then Dr. King, I also have liking for Kennedy family from US. It was not a bomb that gave Black people in America rights equal to that of white folks.
I wish everyone could understand this.

Integration of Blacks was well under way by the time the Kennedy's arrived on the scene. It truly started with Brown Vs. Board of Education ruling in 1954. And the Kennedy family sure was all for peace and brotherly love as evidenced by the bay of pigs invasion and the following comments by Robert Kennedy
"I think that our greatest problem, therefore, is to prove that we’re going to remain in Vietnam. Now, that war, that struggle in Vietnam, therefore, in my judgment, is going to be costly, is going to be long, is going to be much bloodier than it is at the present time, and we’re going to have a commitment of a great number of more troops than we have at the present time. I would think that the estimate of 400,000 troops by the end of the year is probably accurate and the fact that it will grow even more next year, and the casualties will be considerably higher than they are at the present time, as far as Americans."
Babar the nukes havn't been used to kill anyone....infact their presence has ensured that you and i don't die an unnatural horrible death....Edhi is a great social worker...i admire n respect him too....but Dr lies in a total different category....
you insulted my hero n my choice by saying you would rather meet a person driving a donkey cart....but when Khalifah said that Dr Qadeer deserves respect u said, "You make your choices I make mine".......please let that philosphy apply to me as well....
Forgot Hiroshima Nagasaki Pinky?
i was talking abt our bomb....the one in which Dr qadeer contributed...no indian n pakistani has died thnx to them or so i believe
Did Kargil happen before testing of Atomic devices or after that? Did atomic weapons diminish the daily skirmishes India and Pakistan used to have? Or did political process reduce it?
The trouble is that for such devices - you need very very very wise heads. Humans 'will' kill one another and they like to 'obliterate' the opposition. Just as Americans did to the Japanese.
why are u forgetting the fact that we are not superpower..to get away with using the nukes....only US can perform that feat....for us, the option is only a safety valve(if thats the right word:)
Pinky: "..to get away with using the nukes...."
to get away with using nukes?! you kidding me?! you wont be there to worry about it! you would be vaporized!
yeah.. well in our case that would be so...thaTs PaRtly Why I loVe hIm aS hE mAdE sUre That iF soMeOne fEEls like Wiping uS Of tHE fAce of PlAnEt EarTh,he ThinkS tWice cOz wE Will nOt b the Only oNe to vAnisH......................................
its called Mutually Assured Destrcution or MAD :) and thats exactly what it is :) and it is sadistic :)
Can I tell you an other way of resolving disputes Pinky in which there is no such madness? Its called 'dialogue' and it includes no interference in anothers affairs. Same goes for Pakistan and India.
dialogue...really???? i can't even count the number of times the dialogues naamy things have failed (in our case)....only option albeit unpleasant left to us is to amass these weapons....
anyhow i know u have many more shells up ur sleeves but i have no interset in MAD:) ..this debate can go on forever....
but i m only a feeble person being persecuted for loving a star....spare me plz....forgive my outspokenness...i'll keep this love burried in my heart....next time i'll think twice abt proclaiming such a dangerous passion for such a dangerous person...mercie bonjour
Pinky I dint start the argument on your love for Dr. Khan :)
Bombs are but to be used but then should we blame Klashinikov for his creation?
Pinky,
Pinky: you insulted my hero n my choice by saying you would rather meet a
person driving a donkey cart
I had no intention to insult your hero. It was only an expression. A donkey
cart man as any other person living is important because he like anyone else is
doing a legitimate work. At least his work or work of any ordinary person is
better then a nuke bomb scientist (a general statement that can be applied to
any and all nuke bomb scientists) because the outcome of such work will not
cause a harm to a fellow human being.
In contrast, social work of Dr. King or Abdul Sattar Edhi is helping people who
are in a desperate need for support and voice. Therefore, IN MY OPINION work of
these social workers/activist/leaders is far superior to that of a common man
& definitely a nuke bomb scientist.
In other words my hierarchy is quite simple
who contribute to the wellbeing of society beyond their own capacity – e.g. Dr.
King, Abdul Sattar etc.
who contribute to the wellbeing of society within their normal capacity –
donkey cart man, an office worker etc.
who contribute to society in a manner which may lead to destruction of anther
human being – nuke bomb scientist, drug smugglers etc.
who promote hate – Terrorists and George Bush
But this is only my hierarchy. Everyone is entitled
to his or her own hierarchy
Plant a tree
ok...actually i associate donkey with insult...u know, there are so many titles associated with this animal (in almost all the languages i know, even Bosnian ppl used 'magarac" to express anger at someone)...i know its not fair (for donkeys) :)but still thats a standard operating procedure to call a stupid person------- that is why i thought u meant to insult......forgive me for being narrow minded with interpretation of ur "hierarchy" :)
Pinky,
No need to seek any forgiveness. It’s a free world and you must
feel free to express yourself. Don't let anyone else dictate what you should or
should not think or who you should or should not like.
You are a kind person
