Persecution and racism against muslims

In Austrailia, a muslim group was denied from opening an Islamic school. People have pulically stated that they do not want muslims in Austrailia, that they are dictators and will take over, or want mosques and put pigs' heads in front of a prayer area. What does this remind you of? Two things actually:

1) How muslims were persecuted in early days by the Quraish

2) How the Jews are accused of tending to 'take over'.

Funny how things come full circle. I have been reading different news and comments related to muslms and Pakistanis. Almost everything comes down to that. People really hate both groups now. It has made me realize that the world is not a lovey dovey place. Everyone cares only about themselves. So stop trying to be somebody else. Stop feeling hurt when you hear someone say something hurtful about you. Accept who you are and the fact that its all about self preservation. Most importantly, fix yourself and prove how they are really wrong about you. Brains are more important then mindless brute strenght (which muslims do not have anyway). Here is the story:

Perhaps they have a point. You clearly dont live next to a mosque.

Clearly I do. :D

No one - not even Pakistanis (usually) stop people from building churches or put horrible things like a devils picture in front of it.

Intolerance is leading the globe through a downward spiral to blackness. Nothing good will come out of it. Its like people are closing their minds and becoming dangerously narrow minded.

Thank you for your comment.

They are doing this because they are affraid that people may start reverting to islam and that may be a threat to them.Australians are accepting islam and its guidance from ALLAH not the hard work of muslim missionaries. They are brain washing there public that muslims are dictators reminds not only how muslims were prosectued in early days of quraish but also that every where muslims went in the early days of islam to deliever the message to whole humanity they had to face the same types of difficulties.

As far as Pakistanis are concerned they don't represent true picture of islam in Australia as most of them are there to get better jobs and income in Australia not to invite people to islam.

Why is it so important that a religion be taught in a school or that there be religious or religion-based schools?

Coz if it is important than we are guilty of not teaching anything about 'Christianity' to the Christian children, 'Hinduism' to the Hindu children and so on. I don't feel that the purpose of religion can be met that way.

Are we making better Muslims out of children by teaching them 'Islamiat' here in Pakistan, a Muslim country?

"Are we making better Muslims out of children by teaching them 'Islamiat' here in Pakistan, a Muslim country? "

I believe the usual argument is that its the only way to make them learn something about Islam. If it weren't complusory no one (with very few exceptions) would know anything about Islam - and we're supposed to teach it to our kids. I completely understand your point and it is the parents responsibility.

The real issue here is not that they were denied building the school, to me the real issue is the antagonism and direct hatred that was expressed towards them. Ok, reject the petition, but don't put pigs outside, attack anyone who looks middle eastern or muslim etc. They have boldly stated their racist stance on Muslims. That is the real issue.

Thank you for your comment

That wouldn't be the first time for that or Muslims, would it? :)

Again no expression not voiced strongly enough is an 'expression'!

Believe me we have burnt enough churches here to not raise a hue and cry against that.

Australians have been racists far longer than that! The French show their bias their own way- remember the Hijab thing!

There is no need to be someone to pacify the opinions or behaviours of others. One should set one's own standards and uphold them. Otherwise it is societies not individuals who shall decide upon our fate.

Sorry guys but the above report
has failed to mention the strong media bashing that these 1000 protesters are
getting in Australia.
There will always be people like such everywhere. Look at Buzzvine posts and
you will find more then few racist here too. In Pakistan
we have small percentage of people that are racist and so is the case with Australia.
You can not label entire country racist based on a small minority.

Plant a tree

I think there is some misquotation or exaggeration in this comment. I agree that there are such vicious elements in every society. How tolerant are we in Paksitan?

I have been residing in Australia for quite some time now. Am a graduate of a university here where we have a mosque on the campus with the liberty of offering prayers at the mosque in congregation or otherwise. Since friday prayer attracts larger number of people prayers are offered in the front lawn of the uniersity. Its great. No such abuse has ever happened. The university also holds weekly lectures on several Islamic themes and topics that attracts large number of audience. the speakers come from all around the world.

As my office is located far from the university mosque now, I have a praying mat in my office where I pray 3 times a day. I share my office with another person who has never objected to my praying ritual. I could not do this in pakistan. I have found my colleagues here very tolerant and open to religious diversity.

As for schools, there are several Islamic schools in each city of Australia. Only those schools are apprehended which have incorporated hostile content in their curriculum.

Transplanting strange customs in a new land has its inherent problems - Bon Courage!

So then instead of transplanting it should be implanting?????????????????? :)

Good one, Iola :)

Oh don't worry...it'll keep coming :)
