Kurta Shalwar, a 2nd class dress

Kurta Shalwar is the national dress of Pakistan, still one sees very less of it in our corporate office environment. Why this discrimination? No explanation, but lame excuses.
I don't have anything against the prevalent Pant Shirt, Court and Tie culture, which some say is purely Westernized, but there should not be a complete bias/ ban against our National Dress. Ok, I also give it to them that Pant Shirt looks more professional and tidy to be worn in the office environment, but atleast on Fridays Kurta Shalwar should be allowed.
Jumma (Friday) has a special importance in the life of a Muslim and Islam has placed special emphasis on organizing, preparing and saying the Jumma (Friday) prayer. For this day atleast, wearing Shalwar Qameez in corporate offices should be allowed and left to the person's choice. Other than this, Pant Shirt is fine and should be followed strictly, nothing against that.
What say you ?

So Friday prayer is not allowed in pants. Damn...all these years...
@ Khalifah
Did I give this impression that it is not allowed. All I said is that culturally we're inclined to wear Kurta Shalwar and as you yourself is a big preacher of freedom of choice in speech, action and religion, one should be allowed to wear whatever he wills (within the parameters of respectability). So why allowance of wearing Kurta Shalwar on Friday is a big deal.
Don't make it a religious issue, its just a civil issue.
It is NOT our national dress!
Yes it is not our national dress. Plus let everyone wear whatever they like. Dress has got more to do with culture than religion. Women wear jeans and skirts in lebanon/Palastine and offfer prayers and in most cases are better muslims than us. For men too the same hold good. Dress is irrelevant, faith is.

When we say that Islam is a code of life. Then it should be reflected from each and every aspect of our life. Dress is not beyond that. We believe in our religion which discussed in detail what type of dress we should wear whether we call it shalwat kurta or pants shirt.
Islam has got nothing to do with dress, as long as it is decent....no matter what it is..(jeans, skirts, etc).

Well said DOC
well... friday is a important day for Muslims and ghusal , sunnat dress( shalwar kameez) and itar are sunnat of Rasol (PBUH) of this days. And we perform these sunats every friday but dont do niyat that we are doing these thing as sunat we dont get any sawab just by niayt we can get sawab for free free free lol.And since coprate culture is pure capilistic culture which is against Islam they would never allow us to fullfill our friday duties.
We Muslim are unintentional for our economic benifits bowwing down to zionist and Islam enemy forces which is Sad.
Allah hum ko in fitno say bachaye
Ameen
Have you made any research about the dress of our beloved Prophet (PBUH)?
TARIQ SB,
How a shalwar Kameez can be a Sunnat Dress? at that time muslims used to wear TEHBAND like stuff.... Adopt the complete Sunnah then and by today start wearing Tehband and that must be above your ankles.. :) Please dont make the religon so rigid that people avoid practicing it.
RAZORFISH: What is the connection between Shalwar kameez/kurta and Jummah? If you wear shalwar kameez or kurta every friday as a cultural denotion then it is nothing to do with religon. Normally in offices they allow Shalwar kameez but with a waist coat..It should be like that .
I dont understand how could you say that Islam is nothing to do with our dress? If it was so then why are there so many aiyahs and ahadieths regarding dress?
I would recommend everyone to read the following article:

@ Tariq Sb
"sunnat dress" ( shalwar kameez)...??
@ razorfish
What is the national dress to do with Jumma prayers and Islam...? Or are you refering to Jumma prayer on the 14th of August??
Unbelievable stuff!
Prayer is a homage to Allah and men and women on Earth here are going to decide whether it should be in salwar kameez or else.
Rocks!
Before all of you go berserk.. understand what razorfish is saying...
He is saying that shalwar kamiz is a national dress which is true. National dress does not have to be consitutionally defined rather what the ordinary people wear. Jeans therefore does not rank on top of Shalwar Kamiz.
He is saying that there should be no restriction on wearing that dress. Which there is a restriction mind you in some places.
He states that 'at least' on Friday it should be allowed becasue there is a culture of offering Juma in shalwar kamiz. Although he wrongly asociated it with religion.
Yes, dress should be decent.
Yes, dress is a cultural aspect - which gets moulded by religion. Shalwar Kamiz is not a religious attire.
I work here, in a well developed western country..there is no dress code! People are allowed to wear whatever they like, I have seen guyz coming to office in Bermuda Shorts and chappal in summer..usually same dress is used again and again, mostly a T-shirt and jeans ..the only guyz I have seen so far are those who interacts with out side to be rather well dresse, for instance, marketing department and CEOs..
It is not correct to attribute anything to sunnat without proper research, I severly doubt the kurta shalwar and jumma connection..
Yes folks! PostMan is halal!
We know that he is talking about practices observed in offices and the decorum which he feels should be especially observed there but what if in some other Muslim country the national dress is different for example in the west so then....
Ooops- in some other country where a Muslim is living... that is what I meant
.. then read UFOs comments again.
There should no restriction on shalwar kamiz in pakistan!
Oh yesssssssssssss PostMan.. I just read the whole thing. Why am I becoming so pathetic?
You are right.
Now will you stop envying me? :-)
people are taking everyone's point wrongly here. Postman well defined razorfish's piont of veiw.
I was recalling that we recieve number of office order in a month regarding dress code. In one of such order it was clearly mentioned that you are allowd to wear shalwar kameez with waist coat only. That is utterly unfair.
The Sophi. What is bad in it if waist coat is compulsory??? One should be dressed properly. Shalwar Kameez has its grace with wasit coat. If only shalwar kameez will be allowed then next day people will be wearing clothes like Dr Amer Liaqat hussain(with so much embroidery) or Arif Lahore(who wears his wife's clothes)
We need to save our national culture but corporate culture as well.
even at my uni in Islamabad, shalwar qameez is not allowed for boys...i read the circular myself....i don't know why r we so ashamed of conversing in urdu n wearing shalwar kameez....but still my brave uni fellows do wear this dress ocassionally....(on Fridays to b exact)......
Officially Sherwani would be more appropriate; shalwar kameez is too casual. That would be like wearing jeans to work which is not an acceptable practice here in USA. We do have casual fridays when we are allowed to wear jeans, though so likewise in Pakistan a causual friday allowing SK should work.
Anyway people who are not free should not be free to flaunt their culture so Pakistani's should keep wearing the master's attire.
who sponsors u to operate an online auschwitz camp????
I apologize. On second read my comment didn't sound funny at all.
The edit option is not available so I am unable to remove the comments. Once again, I apologize; my comment wasn't funny; just hateful
