Polilce raid at CAT House Club, Islamabad
submitted 5 months 23 days 2 hours ago by: amersarfraz : 9 commentsJust read the news about CAT House Club in Islamabad that there was a police raid and a lot of local and foreign ladies were arrested dancing there at the club. Police also found and confiscated a large quantity of alcohol.
The story itself was interesting, but the name also rang some bell in my mind that i had read about it somewhere on buzzVines. On searching, I did find this story posted by Dr. Irfan Zafar around 7 and half months back. New Club in Islamabad: Enlightened Pakistan
You can also check the club's official website which speaks a lot about the undergoing activities in the name of entertainment and leisure.

So the girls were arrested for dancing with men they were not married to? I didn't know that was illegal there, just the alcohol. I saw mostly whites in the pictures on the CAT website, I thought things such as this were overlooked as long it was only for foreigners?
I know we have a reputation here in the west for celebration of drinking culture, I think it would surprise many to know that there are still active pushes to ban and limit the sale of alcohol here. Here, alcohol is only sold in government run stores, and they recently tightened the hours that they are open.
Don't you think we are stopping foreigners from doing and practicing their values in Pakistan.
What if they will abondon us from practicing our values in their countries?
Pakistan's image well maligned up.....
Sorry if I offended by my ignorance. I'm trying to learn about Pakistan by reading local blogs instead of the news, but I still have a lot to learn. I've heard of many incidences of people in Islamic countries bending the rules in efforts to attract foreign investors and tourists. I don't think there is much going on there in terms of tourism at the moment, but there must be a lot of foreign capitol.
I'm not sure what Pakistani values values you are referring to (not) being practiced here as I am just learning. There have been allowances for religious values here though: Hijabs and have been allowed in places where other head coverings are not, and employers must give employees time, and usually an area, for prayer. Sikhs here are also allowed to ride without a motorcycle helmet, something I wish I was allowed to do. I have seen people be less open to allowances in the recent past though due to obvious tensions.
Sunny, I would tend to agree with you, if and only if, there are no existing Pakistani laws against the activities supposedly occurring in the club.
If a law does exist then it ceaces to be a question of 'freedom of expression' since the law of the land takes precedence over a persons values as understood in their place of origin
For example, I do not know of any non-Muslim country that allows public broadcast of the muslim call to prayer (Aazan) altough it is a cherished 'freedom of expression' for Muslims but falls under 'public nuisance' category elsewhere.
So yes, if the foriegners 'values' clash with local laws and customs, then those values must be dealt with according to the dictates of law
Muslim scholars are not even clear that whether the loud speakers are according to Islamic values or not for Islam. Some say its disturbance as well for some its a must practice :)
still many non muslim countries allow azaan.....oh yeah uk doesn't allow people to sacrifice goat on Eid occasions :)
Doesn't it need a joint consensus from muslims? :)
You are going to ban them from this, they can even abondon you from your other social value then, what are you gonna do then?
Jews used to do like before the world war two abondining others preferring theirs bla bla ....... Isn't it like muslims turn is coming in this way
how long are they going to tolerate us?
They are already mocking our values, in response muslims usually kill them by bomb blasts killing not the culprits but the citizens
Fine enough......atleast...... it wasn't a good move to find a solution :)
Muslims are confining themselves to fully ethnocentrics which makes them selfish and bla bla bla......
anyways i am not watching a good future ahead for us though..... one mad man from their side and that toleration is gone..... then you will only fight for basic necessities....
Social evils must be demoted. Any activity, when crosses barriers, gets attention and is vulnerable to the reaction, either good or bad.
Just look at BASANT, when crossed barriers, we had to ban it, though some may call it freedom of expression, or anything else they like. When something is good, its good, and when it is bad, its bad.
False arguments can't stop us calling a spade, a spade.
