The final rear-wheel-drive Sunny from model year 1978 to 1982 featured numerous variants, including a fastback station wagon as well as more squared-off, utilitarian models with three and five doors, a coupé, and two- and four-door sedans. These models appeared with Datsun 120Y, 130Y, 140Y and 150Y badges in some markets (depending on engine size) though Sunny was increasingly used for export, too.
The North American version was marketed as the Datsun 210. The B310 was known for its high equipment levels and build quality at the time. It was available with the same A-series engines as its predecessor although the B210's optional 63 series 5-speed transmission was replaced with the smaller 60 series unit. The leaf spring rear suspension was discontinued and the live axle was now suspended using a coil spring four-link configuration. In 1980, the B310 was given a mild facelift, with a smoothed off front end, a grille with square headlamps, and a redesigned dashboard. In most markets, the A12 engine was the only or most common engine offered. However B310s in various markets were fitted.

Above is a short introduction of the vehicle & below is the capability of this old & yet comfortable car….
I am driving the same Datsun 120Y, Model 83 with B210 engine, since 4 years. A very good friend was about to sale this car out at that time. I was in desperate need of four wheelers so bluntly decided to buy this old vehicle. I was the second owner. The car was running on Petrol till that time but it wasn’t economical, so I took it to get installed a brand new Landy/Renzo Italy CNG kit with Inflex Cylinder. It took around 5 hours & PKR 29,000/- that time. Finally the kit & cylinder were installed properly and still running almost as day one. It sometimes creates the well known starting problem in winters but it is never too hard to get this engine (B210) running again.
May 2006 – First long run:
Motorway M2 - Lahore to Faisalabad & Jhang & back to Lahore. Highest speed mark was touched twice 160 KM/h and surprisingly on CNG.
Aug 2006 – Second long run:
Motorway M2 - Lahore to Faisalabad & Jhang & back to Lahore. Highest speed mark was touched twice 160 KM/h and again surprisingly on CNG.
Dec 2007 – Third long run:
Lahore to Rawalpindi (GT Road) - (2 Passengers + luggage)
Rawalpindi to Wah Cantt. (GT Road) - (2 Passengers + luggage)
Wah Cantt. to Ayubia via Abbot Abad & Nathiya Gali - (5 Passengers with 3 Children + luggage)
Ayubiya to Muree - (5 Passengers with 3 Children + luggage)
Muree to Patriyata - (2 Passengers + luggage)
Muree to Ghariyal - (2 Passengers + luggage)
Ghariyal to Neelam River - (2 Passengers + luggage)
Muree to Islamabad - (2 Passengers + luggage - Fuel Tank Full 30 Liters + 20 Liters spare)
Islamabad to Lahore (M2).
Believe it or not, Datsun 120Y has done it with just 5% error. I have faced one incident when I tried to shift on Petrol while coming back from Patriyata to Muree @ Jheeka Gali. The shifting process was unsuccessful after several attempts. Fortunately I found a mechanic there & it took around 5 hours to get the car back on road. Mechanics over there are Diesel Engine Experts and they don't have hands on experience to handle vehicles running on Petrol or CNG. This was how it took 5 mighty hours. The Fuel/CNG consumption was great, drive was so comfortable, no shoulder pains, no headache and no stress, nothing at all.
I have consumed PKR 1797/- on CNG and PKR 3407/- on Petrol. Total becomes PKR 5204/-. The meter reading was @ 116206 when I had started my journey and it was @ 116878 when I reached Lahore again. The difference is 672 in Miles & 1075.2 in Kilo Meters. That becomes PKR 4.84/KM.
Though 4.84/KM seems bit higher consumption but unfortunately I don’t have the exact number of miles traveled using Petrol & CNG individually. So it has to be in this way.

Oh this is a good car man!
My father had a 1980 cream coloured one.. Peshawar number PRE-717. Dunno where the heck it is now. But man.. just press on the gas.. and it'll go! wont say no!
I like the 120Y's, you need a good paint job and some big wheels, and it will be head turner :) For economy I say its a good car.
Hi.......its great to know that u realize the true potential of this car.......it was refreshing to see this site on searchig for datsun ...however, i'd like to make a bit of a correction here...the car in the pic is a datsun 120y B-310 & not a B-210. the 210 was the 120y range from 1973-1977 and though was technically the same car but with a different (rounded/capsule style) body styling. the b310 (your car)was the next generation sunny/120Y which was introduced in 1978(same car but with round headlights & diffrnt grille/rear lights & dashboard)all the way till 1982. in 1983 the new frnt wheel drive sunny was introduced.another point id like to clarify is that the engine used in these cars was the legendary Nissan A series engine. the engine in the 120y is the A-12 which is a 1171cc ohv engine which produces 69hp @ 6000rpm.thats the engine on your car as well....this engine won the environmental protection agency award in the US for 3 consecutive years 1974-77 for its fuel economy.
anywayz...do write back if you wish to know more about this car...id love to share any kind of info on datsuns.
Good to know that we have car enthusiasts on this forum as well. Please share whatever you have on cars. I love the antiques and would love to own one some day. The only hesitation is the up-keep and maintenance. Any suggestions on that.
