Death penalty : Should there be Death Penalty ?

In a recent effort by United Nations General Assembly relating to international moratorium on capital punishment, the voting ended with 99 in favor, 52 against and 33 abstentions.
Pakistan has voted in favour of the death penalty. It’s ironic that no national debate took place to get views from the public before presenting Pakistan’s recommendation and the decision seems to have been taken by the foreign office baboos independently. The death penalty is irreversible; the fact this nation learned the hard way with the judicial murder of the elected Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto by a “Kangaroo Court” orchestrated by the dictator General Zia-Ul Haq.

"The death penalty is irreversible"
No. It can be commuted (I guess thats the right legal term) by the President of Pakistan. Its his constitutional prerogative.
By "irreversible" means that if an innocent person is executed, he cannot be brought back to life even if proved not guilty after the re-trial.

My apologies. I could not understand the term.
By the way.. your statement that "innocent person is executed..." .. is different from the aspect of pro-life camp. In their case.. they want the death penalty waived even if the person is guilty.
Yup you are right. In my opinion death penalty should only be exercises when say we have serial killers, rapists etc. For people who have committed a crime once, repentance and reformation should be considered.

So basically there is no need to have a national debate on it right?! hehe! The answer is clear! Foreign Office baboos acted on logical reasoning :p
illogical reasoning.... to be precise.

How come may I ask :)
I mean that the BABOOS cannot ever think "logically".

I'm a bit confused here.
Dr. Sb. you are in favour of the death penalty but after repetitive criminal record. If repetitive criminal record is the criteria, then why should severity of crime be an issue. Shouldn't it then be for all the crimes that have been committed repeatedly, may it be a case of theft or kidnap and what not.
If capital punishment has to be there at all, I believe it should be according to the severity of crime. Although I do agree that there is no way or reversing this punishment, but that is exactly why alternative punishments like life imprisonment are there. There have been very few cases of capital punishment, as I can recall and I hope there is proper investigation behind all that did occur (although I have my doubts about r. Bhutto, which was more a personal vendetta).
Moreover, death penalty has its root in the Islamic system and if we believe there is logic in our religion, then there has to be a logic behind this punishment also. I absolutely believe in the Islamic system of law. Should it to be implemented properly for ALL, there is very low probability that there would be any crime at all. It's partly to the absence of the Islamic Law and mainly to the absence of implementation of ANY LAW, that we have a rising criminal rate in Pakistan.
Oh come on Doc :) Do not be so hard on baboos!
You think the same way, I think the same way on death penalty... they also had same thing in mind! You are rounding us up too in the illogical reasoning arena :p
And you have appeared in the CSS exam as well?! (hope am not confusing you with someone else)
nop. i never wanted to be part of those "souls".

The death penality is also allowed in islam. A murderer should face a death penalty and there nothing wrong with giving a murderer a death penalty. As far as the prime minister ZA.bhutto is cencerned we must keep the fact in mind that he was hanged by a Military ruler's "Kangarooo Courts" and not the free and independent judicary. So Pakistan cannot vote against the Death penalty in United Nation just because one of the Pakistani elected prime minister was hanged. All religious people with knowledge of Islamic laws should decide with the baboos of foriegn office and the issue should be open for debate in Parliment and take a decison and after all the supreme law of Pakistan is quran and sunnah.
Capital Punshiment is permissible in Islam. Hence there is no argument about it if it is good or bad, if it should be there or not....!
As far as some judicial murders like those of Zulficar Ali bhutto and Saddam of recent past and those of Socrates, Christ, Joan of Arc, Ghazi Ilm Din Shaheed, Bhagat Singh Mansoor AnalHaq, and many others through the history are concerned are very sad and appaulling cases, whereby this extreme measure has been used to settle personal accounts rather than to serve justice....!
We can remove the death penalty after a civilian government ridicules and then hangs Musharraf.. not until then
@ Khalifah
I agree with you....but how do we know that we won't have any more millitary dictators...we should have it in place for use in future or keep it exclusively for them....!
Trust me you make an example out of one and these good for nothing pussies and they will never meddle in politics again
wow..none of that made sence to me. I would like to know what your oppinoin is on the death penalty in the United states. Im doing a persuasive essay and it would help to have both sides.
death penalty should be estabolish...haha
