PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) has announced a new law that anyone who needs a mobile sim, first needs to present his National Identity Card. But that's not the end of story, things are more interesting than just that.

Not ony are consumers required to present the NIC at the time of purchasing an NIC, the law also states that the SIM will be posted at the mailing address printed on the NIC to ensure that the NIC is valid and the holder actually lives where he states he lives.

It gets me to thinking, what PTA actually is trying to achieve from this. Are they trying to ensure that the mobile sims are used with a proper documentation of the owner OR is it a plan to conduct some sort of a survey on how many Pakistanis have actually got the correct addresses on their ID cards.
