Millions of Kashmiris turned out to vote in Indian elections giving legitimacy to so called "Indian Occupation"

Millions of Kashmiris have cast their ballots in the first phase of regional elections in Indian-administered Kashmir, despite boycott calls from Muslim separatists.

Separatists who say the polls will only serve to deepen New Delhi's hold over the region had urged voters to boycott the ballot.

But about 55 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots on Monday, with long lines of voters stretched around polling stations in several towns north of the capital, Srinagar.

B R Sharma, the state's chief election officer, said it was "a fairly good turnout" after polls closed.

In many Muslim-dominated areas, however, turnout was so low that paramilitary soldiers and police outnumbered voters.

Have we bet on the losing horse? Do majority in Kashmir really want to separate from India? Apparently not

A lie remains a lie, Note "In may muslim dominated areas, . . . soldiers and police outnumbered voters" what do you think some small villages are muslim dominated areas in Kashmir, the whole Kashmir is Muslim dominated if you mean demographic dominance.

The fact is Soldiers and Police outnumbered voters and they voted by themselves, if Indians are so sure of that Kasmiris want to die with india, why do not they go for plebiscite under un resolutions in late forties . I am sure Indians will not let any neutral eye in the elections to watch.

AlJazeera ? and other arabs do not bother supporting india as they are Arabs, they hardly talk about any issue of Muslims.

Support Revolution, be part or depart.

i know i m really dumb but hows the pic related to the buzz? is it the fourth plebiscite?

oh achha...let me correct, i m blind not dumb

Not blind. A bit careless perhaps. His comment seems more like a part of Google Ad :p

exactly, i just read till the link.....

anyway (a babar would have said)back to the buzz, what would have been ur reaction to the elections??? i think if i were a kashmiri, i would have voted...boycotts havnt done much good in the past, have they??...at least, i should have a say in the election of my rulers

pinky: was your vote not going to legitimize whole process which is forced on kahsmiries?

acha bhayi na jati, khush?

but i feel the huryat leaders n indian leaders are two extremes...the reality lies somewhere in the middle

Hurriat was divided in two parts when Mir Waiz umer left Gilani and started negotiations with indian govt...Now he is back after seeing the non-serious attitude of Indian Govt. Ager yeh log extriemist hotay to becharay adhi adhi zindagi jails main na guzartay..

The thing is that kashmiris are not getting naything. They remained peaceful till 87. Then the struggle took a militaristic turn. Even that now has subsided due to various factors. They have tp participate. The question is - how long the Govt in Delhi wants to use the strong arm. Patience will again be tested otherwise

Separatist Hurriat called for boycott to demonstrate their support & with this turnout they have failed to impress international community. I am not sure if Kashmir separatists will have any stream left in their campaign after this elections.

babar: turnout in referendum of Pervez musharaf was +90 percent as sarkari Tv said...i was unable to see any good numbers there at poling station in that referendum...so you thought then Musharaf was a popular leader and nation really voted?

Similarly there was a real boycott...just consult the other media as well. Ali gilani truely said " the cause transfered to new generation" as after 1993 it is the major protest time line nowadays being observed in kashmir. Have you gone through columns of Kuldip naayer and Patel who have accepted that Indian Govt's lull to indians was a falsification and actual situation is quiet different.

There are 7 lac troops in vally(we have total 7 lac) ...army bunkers in every street..daily killing is a normal thing(as you must read newspapers).major leaders of APHC in prison..what else you say "an occupation"?

AFP is telling just opposite to you..are you "AKASH WANI"???(akash wani is indian radio famous for its lies)..

Check your facts Mianjee, Referendum turnout was reported far low than 90% for Pervaiz Musharraf, you exaggeration will not change facts. Several independent surveys, reported his popularity rating at +60% up till Mar 2007. So I am quite certain that he was popular for major period of his presidency. This is however not the topic of our discussion.

With respect to Indian - Kashmir elections, I wish & sincerely hope that you are right but from the turnout in these election, I have started to believe otherwise.

Hurriat will have to demonstrate their far reaching support following the elections to convince me & rest of the world that the reality is otherwise.

Akash wani has really worked well on little brains.

i just can laugh on your sentiments for musharaf..I live in Lahore...I didnt say any person costign vote for referendum..It was similar to Zia's referendum..just question was different

Hurriat has its roots in public and the media campaign against them cant harm the cause...movement has again got momentum as we saw rallies of millions few days weeks back...candidates ran their campaigns in army protection...every opponent was in jail..and yet it was a free and fair election

as NOW peer-o-murshad OBAMA has announced solution of kashmir so now every era waghera will run to purpose a solution. Now the columns will be written in favour of indian occupation. Indian community owns major channels in media so there will be an organized media campaign to influence amarican thinktanks...we all know the storng lobby of indians in US and their good ties with jews and we also know that the passage to white house goes through israel(ref to statement of israili MP that their man got into white house) . Our etsablishment will keep quite during all thsi propoganda campaign as they kept quite during dame duilding on jehlam and chenab..

so the forced soluition is near

Our establishment must only extend moral support. Kashmiris have to standup for their cause i.e. if there is one. Warna muhavra hai na "mudai sust gawah chust" ;op
