Major shift in public opinion on Taliban, Al-Qaida in Pakistan- - New polls revealed
submitted 8 months 21 days 18 hours ago by: Babarzm : 5 comments
Most Pakistanis now see the Pakistani Taliban as well as al Qaeda as a critical threat to the country--a major shift from 18 months ago--and support the government and army in their fight in the Swat Valley against the Pakistani Taliban. An overwhelming majority think that Taliban groups who seek to overthrow the Afghan government should not be allowed to have bases in Pakistan.

I Hope and pray that the army is able to execute its task to the right conclusion and that the gov't and international community provides for the idps before they become cannon fodder for the taliban recruiters.
I agree. I am one of those who switched from important but not critical to CRITICAL THREAT myself. At that time Pakistani Taliban activities were mostly localized & media promotion of the issue was minimal.
"Most" Pakistani's? Only 30% of Pakistani population is concentrated in urban areas where such polls are conducted. The majority of Pakistani's live in rural areas and it is here, precisely, that the Taliban find safe havens and support. Extremism feeds on poverty, neglect, hopelessness and anger; continued military operations aggravate each one of these and only end up strengthening extremism. Force is not a solution but only add fuel to the fire.
There must be something wrong with the polls since it does not match Khalifah's prophecies.
FYI the detail on polls are given on the website including description of sample.

the sad part is that the major reason for the shift in public opinion is not because the fanatics were suicide bombing our schools, hotels and police, killing dozens everyday, not because they had ruined our international reputation, made foreigners, tourists, investors flee,
BUT because they were recently declared Hindu/ Israeli/ US agents.
this is all it took to change the public opinion. but then again cant blame them.
