Having a hard time grappling with the meanings. When I say someone is intelligent, it means that that person has the capacity to work things out quickly in the head to reach a conclusion or decision but then there is the time factor. If someone takes more time and then reaches the correct conclusion even then I would say the same. Phew! Hard!
Some say if you know English and Maths, you know everything.
Feeling dumb here!

Might mean understanding.
Intelligent people can and will make poor decisions.. but they have build up this 'intelligent' status over time for a certain reason.. and the decisions they made then were good...

perhaps of 'certain reasons' I meant the situation at that time which made them take a particular course of action... Or perhaps I was just showing off my english...?

I dont know.. my mother considers me very intelligent :p perhaps I have those looks :p personaly I think I am handsome :p
but then mother are mothers :| they get biased I know... I think I am handsome :p

If i talk about my ammi, then i am the most beautiful girl on earth (dont know about other planets as my mom didn't visit any).
We laugh on such comments of our parents but from inside we consider it absolutely true ;p.......and wow how much great when u feel na....
Yeah you are right.. and one should not be disrespectful to their mothers... SO I am now handsome and intelligent :p

In brief...
Multiple intelligence - refers to where one is adept in two or more normal practices / faculties / disciplines...
Average intelligence - well I suppose this is the general level of proficincy that most people fall into...it is the 'norm' category....e.g. restraint in not committing suicide...dat's average intelligence...if one did, we would say they were below average (in that respect)...the benchmark for this is constantly changing...who knows what would be considered normal in this instance in times to come..?
Intelligence quotient - this is a score that one is given after having taken an IQ test and measures one's overall intelligence across a broad array (whch i dnt knw off-hand...nt mch of a help...hmm, i do knw how it is calculated frm the site http://michna.com/iq.htm )
EQ - this is one's scoring based on their ability to handle diverse scenarios without getting overly emotional or, on the other hand, being too insensitive to one's plight...it's all about one having an emotional balance so to speak...
About the time factor....this would depreciate one's IQ...(dependent upon the level of difficulty of the problem at hand)...sometimes innovation and the methods which two people would do the same things but in different ways also radiates intelligence in their due proportions respectively...
I think although one may know Math & English (which are v.important and play a central role in the deciphering of many problems and resolutions...) there is so much more than needs to be understood...science...technology..basic humanity...etc...
hmm...these topics on intelligence and education are quite broad...let's hear frm others...
Knowing all that and still not knowing precisely makes it challenging, no?

Intelligence...yes, it does encompass one aspect of understandign for this is indeed necessary for one to reac sound decisions and formulate good strategies and inventions...it's a measure of overall skill and conduct...the ability that one has also to differentiate when to use that skill and when to resort to other means...

Then what about our those elders who are not much educated but they did make excellent dicisions with 'good end' results (as Postman mentioned)

The Sophisticated - no, intelligence is not that complicated..a text-book definition could given but understanding where those derivitives tend from and how situational those are...is a lil more complex...altho that wasn't the Q so i apologize for 'drfiting off'....
English and Maths...hmm...well, maybe not English there as that is not the 1st lang of preference over there in some places, right...maybe urdu would apply there..in the states it is regarded as a measure of one's intelligence...maths...yes, i think it does measure intelligence but not exclusively....

oho Hawa! Postman elaborated clrealy that he is handsome and intellegent (according to her mom) and no further argument plz. We should respect each others' parents.
Knowing Maths well attributes to logical and deductive ability while command on languages means ability to communicate well and maybe understand things a lil better. :)

TheSophisticated - I think ppl that are not as intelligent as those above them can still recognize higher intelligence as it would be evident that the one higher up is doing things differently, saying things differently, acting out plans differently or the like thereof...there has to be some distinction btwn them and the others which would stand out..
