Kosovo declared independence yesterday. It makes me think back to the time when we bacame an independent nation. We were so optimistic about the future back then. Some of us still are absolute optimists no matter what, like an aunt of mine. She'd stop talking to you for an indefinite amount of time if you say that it's the end of the road for Pakistan.

I actually adore her for this reason. I know her attitude towards the less-optimists cannot do our country any good (and i'm sure she knows that too) but it's the faith that can.

You see, when Jinnah gave us a moto he had a reason behind it; he knew that the muslims of the subcontinent lacked the three elements he deemed so necessary for the success of a nation.

Have we messed up things so bad that we cannot undo them or can we still redeem ourselves and become the nation Jinnah wanted us to be?
