Whats the Buzz

BuzzVines

Have your say!

Join us and write about anything and everything that you see

This is where YOU are empowered to let your voice be heard. Rant and rave. Give a shout out to an unsung hero. Vent your frustration. Share the quirky and the funny. People are watching and listening. Cut it loose and just let it rip. Put that camera on alert and be a Snaparrazzi.
It’s the Citizen’s call. Bring it on!

Put your thinking cap on
In case you are wondering what the point to this noble effort for democracy is when this concept is all but lost on our authorities and ruling parties; the point is to keep up with the times when the ordinary citizen (netizen, in this case) has a voice and is empowered to make a difference.

To bring you all in the know, Buzzvines is a bit of blogging and a bit of reporting and social commentary. It’s the new merger in the field of news and information.

This is Citizen Journalism and is the act of citizens "playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information" according to the seminal report We Media: How Audiences are Shaping the Future of News and Information, by Shayne Bowman and Chris Willis. "The intent of this participation is to provide independent, reliable, accurate, wide-ranging and relevant information that a democracy requires."

Before you get lost in euphoric delirium, do remember that citizen journalism doesn’t make you an accredited professional journalist. Relax and continue reading to further enlighten yourself:

In a 2003 Online Journalism Review article, J. D. Lasica classified media for citizen journalism into the following types:

  1. Audience participation (such as user comments attached to news stories, personal blogs, photos or video footage captured from personal mobile cameras, or local news written by residents of a community)
  2. Independent news and information Websites
  3. Full-fledged participatory news sites
  4. Collaborative and contributory media sites
  5. Other kinds of "thin media" (mailing lists, email newsletters)
  6. Personal broadcasting sites
