MICROSOFT-aQUANTIVE - US$6 BILLION
The granddaddy of all the major buyouts this year raised
eyebrows about an internet-sales giant owning a marketing-services firm.
GOOGLE-DOUBLECLICK - US$3.1 BILLION
As of press time, it still hasn't closed, making it the last
major outstanding acquisition of the year.
YAHOO-RIGHT MEDIA - US$850 MILLION (VALUE)
Yahoo paid $680 million for the 80% of Right Media it didn't
already own.
WPP-24/7 REAL MEDIA - US$649 MILLION
Part of an April acquisition frenzy, WPP bought itself an
ad-technology outfit.
GOOGLE-POSTINI - US$625 MILLION
Postini's security technology is meant to make Google's
suite of productivity software a bigger player.
OMNITURE-VISUAL
SCIENCES - US$394 MILLION
A merger of two web-analytics giants.
ECHOSTAR-SLING - US$380 MILLION
Dish Network's parent company bought its way into
place-shifting.
YAHOO-ZIMBRA - US$350 MILLION
Zimbra's sophisticated e-mail technology will bolster
Yahoo's mail presence.
AOL-QUIGO - US$360 MILLION
Hot off a 2007 ad-network-buying spree that also included
Tacoda and Third Screen Media, AOL snapped up this contextual firm.
DISNEY-CLUB PENGUIN - US$350 MILLION
While the price tag stunned many (there's another $350
million if certain goals are met) there's no doubt this ad-free kids'
destination is hot.
