Attack on Afgan, Rahim
One day after the manhandling of former chief minister of Sindh, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, another right-hand man of the president, Sher Afghan was beaten up outside the Lahore High Court by a charged crowd. These kinds of incidents only happen when people are pushed to a corner and they see no credibility in the judicial system. The people have surely risen up to teach a lesson to those who have humiliated the sanctity of their offices and defended the disfiguration of the constitution beyond recognition. Let’s not forgive the ones who have played with the destiny of the nation. It’s time to try them in an independent court of law and hold them accountable; else the wrath of people will continue to haunt these despicable souls.

TAIMUR .
I think these people should be questioned in the courts for misuse of there powers with neutral judges and should face all the charges against them including the charges of opposition .Its just my personal suggestion of an ordinary citizen of Pakistan who wants justice in this country.
IGNORE IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT.
I totally agree that those who have publicly humiliated the sanctity of their offices should be tried in the court of law and charged with worst of punishments to make an example for others. But at the same time, I am totally against the manhandling by the public. What would then be the differentiating factor if they are served the same way they behaved. There should be a proper prosecution.
If you give people this power, be ready to be attacked by a mob for something petty that it concluded unjust.
Until we have a fully functioning, free judiciary such justice is laudable
I agree with ordinary citizen...why should they be man-handled? Is it retribution? No, we should prosecute via due process/es of law and not take it into our own hands...such people should be tried and if one has a charge/claim against them, they should present it...
In case you didn't know Hawa, the courts in Pakistan are not free and fair and have not really been functioning at all since the last few months
There was a v nice program last week just over this issue- Live with Talat.
In that he showed videos of how the lawyers, women, the chief justice of our country were being beaten by the police and 100s of other men clad in white salwar kamees with no identities on them,in the very recent past. It was worth seeing! They even showed how President Musharraf at a certain gathering said that if would be fine if he slapped a senior journalist.
The question was why is there such a hue and cry if these two were beaten? Where were these ppl who are now raising their voices against what the lawyers and others did there?
In other words- it was inevitable. I agree with that. Pakistanis are emotional ppl and mob mentality is far different from what the common man can sanely imagine. There is a tendency to ignite emotions.
Here the case is not something like going to courts and trying these ppl. What is Sher Afgan to be tried against? For supporting Musharraf and talking against the lawyers movement? That was never going to happen! This was unforeseen but should have been expected.
I am wondering what would happen to Musharraf once he goes down!! :)
People will rip him apart.

Hmm, Khalifa, the state of the Pakistani courts are akin to those in Zimbabwe...I still maintain that the due process of law should be followed...if not via Pakistani courts then get a petition or appeal to the respective UN body to make sure that a justiciable system is motioned and thus, war criminalsers, fraudsters, etc can be tried either in Pakistan or in the Hague...then again, you do have a point and dependign upon the severity of the offence, the masses may well be saluted for taking a stance against such crime (perhaps via non-violent means though) and taking things in their own hands...tricky scenario...but if we attack them I think we then have no basis to complain when others are being treated similarly and being sent to Guantanamo Bay based on 'evidence of crime'..one would say 'but you do it in your own country'...whether innocent or guilty, one should be given a chance to speak and appeal before prosecution...politics is oft-times greasy and things are not always as they seem...atleast hear them out and then put them on the firing squad if need be...
Non violence only begets violence as the past 60 years of Pakistani history has painfully pointed out
hmmm....got to ponder on ways to counteract that....umm...
